The ultra-small proximity sensor introduced by Vishay consumes only 6.63 μA

The device uses a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL), the photosensitive hole diameter is only 1.6 mm, suitable for consumer electronics and industrial applications, including TWS headsets and VR / AR helmets

Before May 10, 2021, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE stock code: VSH) The Optoelectronic Products Division announced the launch of a new ultra-small, ultra-low power consumption fully integrated proximity sensor-VCNL36825T, to improve the efficiency and performance of consumer electronics and industrial applications. Vishay Semiconductors VCNL36825T uses a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL), which integrates photodiodes, signal processing ICs, and 12-bit ADCs in a 2.0 mm x 1.25 mm x 0.5 mm small surface-mount package. The photosensitive hole diameter is only It is 1.6 mm.

Compared with the previous generation of devices, the newly released proximity sensor has a size reduction of 76%, and the reduced light-sensing aperture improves design flexibility while reducing costs. The compact VCNL36825T is suitable for battery-powered applications with limited space, such as detecting whether the user is wearing a true wireless stereo (TWS) headset, or a virtual reality/augmented reality (VR/AR) helmet. The device has a detection distance of 200 mm and has collision detection functions for toys, consumer electronics, and industrial robots. The proximity sensor power consumption is as low as 6.63 μA, which helps to improve the efficiency of these applications.

VCNL36825T supports the I2C bus communication interface, which can easily access the proximity signal. The programmable interrupt function allows designers to set the upper and lower limits of the interrupt threshold, thereby reducing continuous communication with the microcontroller. The proximity sensor uses intelligent cancellation technology to eliminate crosstalk, and the intelligent continuous design ensures accurate detection and speeds up response. The peak wavelength of VCSEL is 940 nm, and there is no visible "red tail".

The device has excellent temperature compensation in the temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C, the moisture sensitivity level (MSL) reaches the J-STD-020 standard level 3, and the workshop storage life is 168 hours. The sensor complies with RoHS and Vishay green standards and is halogen-free.

VCNL36825T can now provide samples and has achieved mass production. The lead time for bulk orders is 8 to 12 weeks.
